Birmingham Blues No More!
Thursday November 8, 2012 by Alex Wood
This month we're focusing on Birmingham and giving you some ideas on what to do and where to stay in this great city.
Birmingham is well known for the annual Christmas markets which start in November so it's time for some fantastic Frankfurt fare once again as terrific twin Birmingham hosts the 11th annualFrankfurt Christmas Market, the largest authentic German market outside of Germany and Austria!
They'll combine once more with the local brummies' Christmas Craft Fair in offering you a selection of beautifully hand-crafted items and fantastic food for all the family.
Top of the list of Winter Warmers has to be the Glühwein and grilled sausages, however for those hardier constitutions there'll be Weissbier and pretzels. What a combo! For those with sweeter sensibilities we suggest either the crepes or some marvellous marzipan sweets.
And in addition to all this, and to keep you entertained during an epic orgy of consumption there'll be a traditional bandstand where local carol singers and school kids will be performing every day. (there may even be the odd proper muzo...)
The plethora of stalls serves to create the feeling of a very quaint and cutsey shopping villagewithin the heart of the bustling city centre. ...with the numerous shoppers hopefully supplying enough bodily warmth to keep all and sundry nice and toasty. If you do need a respite from the cold the nearby shopping monolith that is The Bullring has a superb Selfridges!
Very definitely an atmospheric occasion not to be missed!
